What kind of backboard is best?
While both are clear, that's where the similarities stop.
In most cases tempered glass is the preferred backboard material
because it has superior performance characteristics and is more
durable over time. Acrylic is lighter rustling in a 30% reduction
in rebound response. It is also softer which allows for scratching
that will give the board a dull look.
Acrylic is the material of choice is you are concerned about
vandalism. Tempered glass will break into several small pieces
if somebody were to throw a brick at it where as acrylic might
only dent.
What is it and how much do I need?
Overhang is defined as the distance from the front of the pole to the front
of the backboard. Regulation distance from the baseline to the front of
the backboard is four feet.
The advantages of a larger overhang include less pole interference while
going in for lay-ups and boxing out for rebounds. This creates a
safer playing experience for young and elite players alike.
Generally, you'll want the largest overhang your playing area can
handle. Residential systems come with a two to five foot overhang.
We recommend an overhang no smaller than three feet.
Should I worry?
Corrosion can weaken parts and leave unsightly rust streaks on your
equipment. Pro Dunk® systems can be protected from this with our
Rust Armor protection package which battles corrosion on three fronts.
First, all fasteners are upgraded to stainless steel. Secondly, we
hot-dip galvanize all steel parts adding a protective layer zinc.
Lastly, we believe that these upgrades will be so effective that we
upgrade your warranty to include corrosion damage.
No other manufacture can boast this kind of protection from the elements.
What is it and why do you use it?
A fine powder chemically bonds to metal parts where it is then baked
creating a very durable attractive finish that looks much like a paint
while being much more durable.
